NPDC tasked on gas leakage
that many residents of Ologbo community in Ikpoba-Okha had fled their homes as a result of the leakage.It was reported that Ise-Idehen told the lawmakers that the incident occurred on Sunday and urged the House to order the company to find a quick solution to the problem. Mr. Patrick Osayimwen (Oredo East) said that the people in Edo now find themselves in a society where multinational companies made millions of naira without considering the safety of the environment and welfare of the people Mr. Etinosa Ogbeiwi (Orhiomwon 2) said that there was need to call the multinational companies to a general forum to deliberate on what they have on ground to safeguard the environment and the people.Philip Shaibu (Etsako West 2) told the House that many of the pipelines were old and needed to be replaced, adding that recent disasters experienced in some communities in the state was due neglibence by the oil companies. He urged the lawmakers to task all the multinational companies responsible for such incidents to compensate not only the community, but also the state.The House, however, resolved that the NPDC should urgently find a solution to the gas leakage within 48 hours and directed the House Committee on Transport and Environment to visit the community on Feb. 24, 2009 and report to the House.
